Having a home alarm system is not quite as big a purchase as it used to be. In fact, if you understand how these items are typically sold, you may have a better idea about how to get the best deal for your home.
The first thing that you should remember is that when there is a consultant in your home to present a home alarm system to you, remember that not only is the sales representative there to design a system for your home, but also to try to sell you some more equipment.
All companies who are trying to sell a home alarm system to you are actually not selling the equipment as much as they are selling the monitoring service. Most free or discounted equipment purchases require you to sign an agreement that obligates you to pay the monitoring company so much per month. This ranges from around $30-$40 per month.
So even though you may feel like you are getting a free system, the truth is that you are often signing a home alarm system contract worth more than $1,000 that is made in incremental monthly payments of $30 at a time.
